About me

Mom, Wife, Runner, Cyclist, Friend, Nurse, Daughter, Pet/Animal Enthusiast, and Fire Fighter: not necessarily in any order, depends upon the hat du'jour or of the moment.

Work! I work at the VA Medical Center as an as an Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner (ARNP) in the Hematology-Oncology Clinic. I graduated from the Master of Science in Nursing program at Seattle Pacific University in 2007, and completed Nurse Practitioner certifications for Oncology, Adult Care, and Geriatrics. I've combined my work and hobbies by bicycling to work most days.

Running! I ran in the 2016 Charleston Marathon, the 2010 New York Marathon, the 2009 Marine Corps Marathon in Washington DC, the 2007 Nike Women's Marathon in San Francisco, and the 2006 Boston Marathon. I qualified for Boston when I ran the North Olympic Discovery Marathon in 2005. I've run in long-distance relays like the Ragnar Northwest Passage 185 mile relay and the Mt.Rainier-to-Pacific 197 mile relay. I've also run quite a few half-marathons, including the Outer Banks "Southern Fried" Half-Marathon in 2013, the Phoenix Half-Marathon, the Vancouver BC "First Half" in 2004, 2005, 2007, 2008, 2009, and 2011, the Royal Victoria Half-Marathon in 2004 and 2008, the Seattle Half-Marathon in 2002 and 2008, and the Bainbridge Island Half-Marathon, among others.

Cycling! I love to cycle. In addition to the daily commute of about 10 miles from home to work, I've also ridden a few "centuries" (100 miles) and many "metric-centuries" (100 kilometers). I rode the 200-mile STP Seattle-to-Portland Bicycle Classic in 2010, and the 186-mile RSVP Ride-from-Seattle-to-Vancouver-and-Party in 2011. I rode in Cycle the WAVE 62-mile Burly Girl in 2010 and 2011. And, of course, living on Bainbridge Island, I haven't missed the annual 33-mile Chilly Hilly ride in several years.

Climbing! In 2011, I trained with the Island Fitness Train-to-Climb group and successfully summitted Washington's two highest peaks, Mount Adams and Mount Rainier.

Hiking! I joined the Seattle Mountaineers in 2012. I went through the Wilderness First Responder (WFR) course at NOLS.

In the summer of 2013, our family moved off Bainbridge Island and all the way across the country. We are now settled into our new home in Durham, North Carolina. As much as we loved the beauty of Bainbridge Island and the Pacific Northwest, I wanted more sun! Well, now we live in the right place to enjoy it - and there are hundreds of trails and hiking/camping opportunities here as well. We can't wait to really explore our new home.
